HEROINE: Annie Kalani
Home town: Waikiki, Hawaii
Q: Which do you prefer --Jimmy Choos or flats? Why?
ANNIE: Jimmy Choos are actually part of my regular work
attire. I'm a wedding coordinator so when the bride and groom arrive I need to
be ready to go. Most often, I'll wear a light-colored sheath dress and my nude
Jimmy Choos. Taking them off at the end of the night for a quiet walk on the
beach is one of my favorite things. During the weekend, you'll usually find me
in slippers (that's flip-flops to all of you on the mainland).
Q: Does sex mean love?
ANNIE: Sex can mean love, but sometimes it's just
about having a really good time. I wouldn't say I'm the most adventurous woman,
but I have my moments. I just make sure I stick to my rule: no sleeping with
the wedding guest. Ever.
Q: Does love mean marriage?
ANNIE: This is a tough one
for a coordinator to answer because I'm not sure that I'm going to say what
couples want to hear. Love and marriage can be wonderful things, but I've seen
countless weddings that are all fantasy. The real question is, can the couple
make it when it stops being about the wedding day and becomes all about married
life? I've seen too many marriages end in divorce (including my mother who
threw my deadbeat dad out of the house). I would say love can mean marriage but
the two things don't always go hand in hand.
Q: What attracted you first to the hero?
ANNIE: Chris is... Chris. He's gorgeous, just a little
rough around the edges, and looks great in a tux. He likes to tease me, and I
need someone who is going to stand up to me (I'm sometimes quiet but I've never
been accused of being shy). But what really attracted me was his cooking.
During our first night together, he walked into my kitchen and started cooking
for me. I think that was when I started to fall in love, even if I didn't
realize it at the time. The man definitely cooks with love for the people he
loves.
Q: If you and your hero were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?
ANNIE: Ummm...
legal, not going to get us arrested things? We'd probably wind up swapping
classic movie quotes, but we wouldn't be stuck long. I'm fully prepared to
manage a crisis--wedding-related or not--from my phone no matter where I am.
I'd probably be pulling strings to get us unstuck while Chris leans against the
wall, quietly laughing at me. But really, why else would I have the Hawaii Fire
Fighters Association president’s number in my phone? I did his daughter's
wedding a few years ago. ♥

Julia. Great Heroine Q&A. I especially love it when Annie doesn't give the obvious response to what they'd do if stuck in an elevator together. The obvious would be a hot and heavy all-over-each-other scene. You choose to give us an insight into Annie's character and she's got more to her than hormones or any other kind of moans. She's on the phone handling the situation and getting them unstuck. Makes me like her even more than if she went sexy. Though I'm sure that happens in your story too. Meanwhile her man is leaning against the wall chuckling about her super efficient response. This is a relationship that interests us deeper than the surface. Good for you Julia. And good for you Annie too.
ReplyDelete:) "Legal...not going to get us arrested things?" Sounds like me.
