MEET HERO: Rhys from THE DRESSMAKER’S DUKE by Jess Russell

Welcome to RWA/NYC’s Hero Blog Tour.

We are interviewing Heroes from New York’s Romance Authors.  You met their Leading Ladies last month.  We know you’ll fall in love with each of these heroes.  We did!

Q:  We have to know – boxers or briefs?
Boxers? I do box often to release--tension.

Q: Where do you work and what kind of car do you drive?
I am a duke. Many say we are the idle rich, but I assure you, I am never idle. There are the estates, the House of Lords, various charities, and then when I have a free moment, I work on my pocket watches and clocks.  (You must take care in your editing. I believe you left off the “t” in cart.) I never drive a cart. I have several equipages that I use according to the weather and situation.

Q:  Have you ever posed for a Male Calendar?  Would you? If so, what month would you be and why?
Good heavens, no. I suppose I am handsome enough. Ladies seem to ogle me wherever I go. But to be on such display? Never. March. I am still in the last dregs of winter, still hanging on to old ways of being-trying to control my world, to control love. But Spring is coming. I can feel the thaw in my bones and in my heart. I am anxious but bursting with hope. I just pray the spring floods don’t swipe me away.

Q:  Tell us your story.
I know the ton calls me “The Monk” behind their gloves and fans. So be it. I would rather be a monk then what my father was. But meeting this woman, Mrs. Olivia Weston, has sorely tested my scruples. I am at a mere dressmaker’s feet, (though I must never let her know.) If I risk letting her in, will she fill this deadness inside me?

Q:  What was the first thing you noticed about the Heroine?
Her long white neck. Would that I could have lifted her infernal veil.

Q:  Describe her looks.
I am never good at these sorts of things. Back hair, green eyes, long, willowy body—oh, bullocks—she is my dream.

Q:  Is the Heroine a sweetheart or a vixen?  Does she help or hinder you?
She plagues me and fascinates me, and ties me up in knots so that I cannot work or think—far easier to make my 16th century watch keep perfect time, than to figure out the workings of her mind.
Q:  Do you believe in Happy Ever After or Happy Right Now?
I am in it for the long haul. Do not mistake me, I experience moments of mind numbing happiness, but Olivia has taught me that there is more beyond those fleeting moments. There is time. I am most eager to spend the rest of my days with this woman.
Q:  Who’s your favorite superhero – Captain America, Superman, Iron Man, Batman?
I have no earthly idea who these men are. (Batman sounds like a very dubious and rather macabre character.) I suppose if I had to choose, not knowing any of the particulars, I would say Captain America. I have always wanted to travel to America, I admire their government and energy, and to sail the high seas; to feel the wind in my face, and to in command of a beautiful ship, would be most pleasurable.
Q:   Describe your author.
Jess takes good care of me. She loves me, though I can’t imagine why. Jess is very particular about fleshing out all my quirks and inner most secrets. It is sometimes quite painful for me, but she insists on exposing me layer by layer. I must say, though I am a private man, I am anticipating sharing my and Olivia’s love story with the world.♥
