PAPER
DOLLS
with Maria
Ferrer
Good
morning.
Years
ago, along with one of our Founding Mothers Kathryn Hayes, we gave a talk about
Paper Dolls. We ripped out pages from
magazines of couples in different scenarios to brainstorm character sketches
and scenes.
I’m
bringing the Paper Dolls back.
Every
Monday I will post a Paper Doll to start off our week. Think of it as a quick exercise, a writing
prompt. Look at the photo, the
characters, the background.
QUICK.
Who are
they? Name, profession?
Who are
they to each other? Married? Siblings? BFFs?
What are
they doing? For instance, he is packing
in this photo, but is he leaving on a business trip? going back to his wife?
Was it a one night stand?
What
genre are you thinking of? Contemporary, historical? Sweet? Sexy? Horror?!
You get
the picture. (Pun intended.)
So look at the Paper Doll and write a quick character sketch, or what you think the scene is about. Please post in the comment section.
We’ll see you next Monday, with the next Paper Doll. Happy Writing.♥
Maria
Ferrer has always loved playing with Paper Dolls. They stimulate her creativity. She
loves imagining who the people are, where they are going, what's going to happen next! Sometimes it’s the girl next door or the
killer around the corner or the lovebirds at the airport. All great scenarios. All
great writing prompts. And practice makes perfect….she hopes.
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteGood idea, here are my thoughts:
Helen and John are a married couple discussing his upcoming trip to Chicago. Helen plans to join him the latter half of the trip as she has a conference in New York she needs to attend. Of course, the real reason Helen is staying behind is so that she can spend time with her lover, John's business partner, David.
Definitely romantic suspense.
