Q&A WITH XENA FULLER FROM THE CHASE BY XYLA TURNER

WELCOME TO OUR HEROINE BLOG TOUR.
Meet some fascinating Women with definite views on shoes, sex and significant others!

HEROINE NAME:
Xena Fuller
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY

Q:   Which do you prefer --Jimmy Choos or flats?
XENA:  Definitely Jimmy Choos!

Q:  Does sex mean love?
XENA:  Absolutely not. I was doing the whole strictly sex thing with Kevin and I don’t love him. Now Xavier, that’s a different story. It’s more than that.

Q:  Does love mean marriage?
XENA:  Yes, love to me means marriage. One of the reasons why I needed to move away from Kevin, as because I wanted to get into something real. I did not think that would be Xavier at first or even now, but he seems awfully determined.

Q:  What attracted you first to the hero?
XENA:  His aroma pulled me in at first. Hence, why his nickname was Mr. Aroma. The man is intoxicating. Then it was his touch and his mouth. He was so forward with me, like he was trying to let everyone in the room know, I was off limits or I was his. So, probably his possessiveness.

Q:  If you and your hero were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?
XENA:  We would do every single scene that was in THE CHASE! Plus more. Xavier is hot as hell. His naughty mouth would send me over the edge.

THE CHASE Book Summary
Xena is an independent woman who has captured the attention of a possessive alpha man, Xavier. He’ll do anything to get her to be his, but the woman keeps running away. THE CHASE is seductive, attractive and downright erotic!

Q&A WITH CASS FROM SWEET JAZZ BY URSULA RENEE

WELCOME TO OUR HEROINE BLOG TOUR.
Join us every day this week and meet some fascinating Women with definite views on shoes, sex and significant others!

HEROINE:   Cass
Home town:    New York, NY

Randy: Sorry I'm late.
Ursula:  Randy, what are you doing here? Where’s Cass?
Randy: She's workin’ on a new dress, so I offered to sit in for her. Don't worry, she'll do my interview next month.

Ursula: (sigh) Why can't we have a normal interview?
Randy: 'cause our creator is anything, but normal.

Ursula: Watch it or I'll give you children who are sassier than Cass.
Randy: Duly noted.

Ursula: We might as well begin. Which does Cass prefer -- heel or flats?
Randy: Since Cass walks everywhere, she prefers flats. They're easier in her feet.

Ursula: Does sex mean love?
Randy: When we first met Cass considered sex a wife’s duty. A woman was supposed to submit whether she wanted to or not. I don’t think she believes in that old-fashioned crap anymore.

Ursula: Does love mean marriage?
Randy: I would hope so, but it took a couple of proposals to convince Cass. A previous relationship turned her off to marriage.

Ursula: Do you know what Cass first found attractive about you?
Randy: Though she has told me on more than one occasion I'm not funny, I believe it was my ability to laugh in the face of an adversary. My music sealed the deal.

Ursula: If you and Cass were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?
Randy: I'm sure I could think of a few things; however, despite my attempts to corrupt her, Cass would insist we talk. Thankfully, she'd make it up to me when we get home.
Ursula: On that note, thank you, Randy for doing Cass's interview.

SWEET JAZZ Book Summary
Randy and Cass’s story is told in SWEET JAZZ. Though many of the employees at The Big House are not thrilled when Randy is hired to play sax, Cass, the club's sassy singer goes out of her way to welcome him. As their relationship develops, life at the club for Randy becomes complicated when he has to fight both Cass’s fear of opening her heart and those who want to keep them apart.

Q&A WITH CASEY WEBB FROM ABOVE ALL BY REBECCA BROOKS

WELCOME TO OUR HEROINE BLOG TOUR.
Join us every day this week and meet some fascinating Women with definite views on shoes, sex and significant others!

HEROINE NAME:
Casey Webb
Hometown:
Bonnet, New York

Q:  Which do you prefer -- Jimmy Choos or flats? Why?

CASEY:  Definitely flats. The last time I wore heels at my gallery opening, it didn't go so well. Most of the time you'll find me in hiking boots, or barefoot running down to the lake where I live.

Q:  Does sex mean love?

CASEY:  No way. Sometimes you want a good time, even when you're convinced it won't last.

Q:  Does love mean marriage?

CASEY:  I'd like to get married eventually, but right now I'm so happy with where I am in my relationship and in my life that I don't want to rush the next steps.

Q:  What attracted you first to the hero?

CASEY:  Oh God, his dimples. Then he turned around, and it was all over for me. I wanted him right then and there.   But what I really noticed, besides his ass, was how young he looked. I felt like a cradle robber for staring. Good thing he was so persistent, making sure I wouldn't be able to get his smile out of my mind.

Q:  If you and your hero were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?

CASEY:  Besides making the security guard blush if we were caught on camera? We have great conversations, so we'd probably be talking about the campground I run, my latest art opening, or his café, which is really taking off.   Or he'd be complaining about how I owned him in a Scrabble re-match with our friends. That happens a lot.♥

ABOVE ALL Book Summary:
Reeling from a sudden breakup, Casey Webb leaves her life in New York City to run a campground in the Adirondacks, convinced she needs nothing more than dramatic peaks and glittering lakes to be fulfilled. But after reading the acknowledgements to her ex’s bestselling debut, thanking his new girlfriend “above all,” Casey has a passionate weekend fling with a hot, young Brooklyn-bound chef who just might be her own “above all”—if she can hold onto him when the real world intrudes.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Rebecca Brooks has backpacked alone through India and Brazil, traveled by cargo boat down the Amazon River, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, explored ice caves in Peru, trekked to the source of the Ganges, and sunbathed in Burma, but she always likes coming home to a cold beer and her hot husband in the Bronx. She writes about travel, the outdoors, and independent women ready to try something new.

Q:  Does love mean marriage?
ABBY:  I use to think so, but I've been shown otherwise.

Q:   What attracted you first to the hero?

Q&A WITH ANNIE KALANI FROM ONE WEEK IN HAWAII BY JULIA KELLY

WELCOME TO OUR HEROINE BLOG TOUR.
Join us every day this week and meet some fascinating Women with definite views on shoes, sex and significant others!

HEROINE:    Annie Kalani
Home town:   Waikiki, Hawaii

Q:   Which do you prefer --Jimmy Choos or flats? Why?

ANNIE:  Jimmy Choos are actually part of my regular work attire. I'm a wedding coordinator so when the bride and groom arrive I need to be ready to go. Most often, I'll wear a light-colored sheath dress and my nude Jimmy Choos. Taking them off at the end of the night for a quiet walk on the beach is one of my favorite things. During the weekend, you'll usually find me in slippers (that's flip-flops to all of you on the mainland).

Q:  Does sex mean love?

ANNIE:  Sex can mean love, but sometimes it's just about having a really good time. I wouldn't say I'm the most adventurous woman, but I have my moments. I just make sure I stick to my rule: no sleeping with the wedding guest. Ever.

Q:  Does love mean marriage?

ANNIE:  This is a tough one for a coordinator to answer because I'm not sure that I'm going to say what couples want to hear. Love and marriage can be wonderful things, but I've seen countless weddings that are all fantasy. The real question is, can the couple make it when it stops being about the wedding day and becomes all about married life? I've seen too many marriages end in divorce (including my mother who threw my deadbeat dad out of the house). I would say love can mean marriage but the two things don't always go hand in hand.

Q:   What attracted you first to the hero?

ANNIE:  Chris is... Chris. He's gorgeous, just a little rough around the edges, and looks great in a tux. He likes to tease me, and I need someone who is going to stand up to me (I'm sometimes quiet but I've never been accused of being shy). But what really attracted me was his cooking. During our first night together, he walked into my kitchen and started cooking for me. I think that was when I started to fall in love, even if I didn't realize it at the time. The man definitely cooks with love for the people he loves.

Q:  If you and your hero were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?

ANNIE:  Ummm... legal, not going to get us arrested things? We'd probably wind up swapping classic movie quotes, but we wouldn't be stuck long. I'm fully prepared to manage a crisis--wedding-related or not--from my phone no matter where I am. I'd probably be pulling strings to get us unstuck while Chris leans against the wall, quietly laughing at me. But really, why else would I have the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association president’s number in my phone? I did his daughter's wedding a few years ago. ♥

ONE WEEK IN HAWAII Book Summary
No man has ever made no-nonsense wedding planner Annie Kalani want to break her biggest rule: don’t get involved with the guests. That is until she meet hot LA chef Chris Benson. But Annie soon realizes that her one night of sex on the beach could mean risking it all.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Julia Kelly writes contemporary and historical romances about smart women and the men who love them. During the day, Julia is an Emmy-nominated producer who chases breaking news and bosses reporters around for a New York City television station. She never met a pair of stilettos she didn't love and stays up much too late reading. Her book ONE WEEK IN HAWAII releases May 19th.

Q&A WITH JOSIE VASQUEZ FROM DOING LONDON BY CHLOE BLAQUE

WELCOME TO OUR HEROINE BLOG TOUR.
Join us every day this week and meet some fascinating Women with definite views on shoes, sex and significant others!

HEROINE:   Josie Vasquez
Home town:  London, England

Q: Which do you prefer -- Jimmy Choos or flats? Why?

JOSIE:  Jimmy Choos. I love my heels! They make me feel sexy. And flats don’t look good with a bustier and a whip. ;)

Q:  Does sex mean love?

JOSIE:  If it did, porn wouldn’t be so popular. Sex just means sex. Trust me, I know.

Q:  Does love mean marriage?

JOSIE:  If you’re Cinderella, definitely. If you’re like me you’re just happy you found love.

Q: What attracted you first to the hero?

JOSIE: His eyes. They are dark and thick lashed. I couldn’t look away.  Then it was his smile and then his Italian accent hit me.  I was a little bowled over when we first met.

Q:  If you and your hero were stuck in an elevator, how would you pass the time?

JOSIE: That sounds scary. I’d need him to hold me. Naked. This is why I don’t wear flats. ###

WELCOME TO MY WRITING DEN!: WRITING THROUGH THE FOG BY MARIA COX

Recently, I attended an online class called Writing Through Life’s Curveballs. The class was advertised via RWA Notes. Up until recently, I had dealt with several curveballs of my own, and the course description genuinely piqued my interest.

A multipublished author who had dealt with several crisis of her own facilitated the one week class. Consequently, the stories shared during the one-week course were moving and inspiring. The adversity some of the writers faced got me really thinking about my own challenges.

No matter our age, cultural background, or social status, we all have those times when life screams at us, “I don’t care if you have a deadline, a family, a career. Here comes a curveball!”

Now, without going into too much detail, I’ll say that I’ve worked through two major life-altering events in the past six months. Through it all, however, I kept my obligations: Cared for my loved ones, got dinner on the table, kept the house clean, and met deadlines.  I kept the well-oiled machine running. Yet, where I needed inspiration and confidence–well, that’s where things suffered. So much in my life was turbulent and my situation was affecting my writing.  The anti-muse made an unscheduled visit determined to wreak havoc on my writing life.

Logically, now it’s the point in the story where I reveal how I rid myself of that annoying anti-muse for good.  Unfortunately, I don’t have such insightful advice since dealing with a constant anti-muse isn’t easy. What I can tell you is that it wasn’t until I began addressing my underlying issues that I was able to put the pieces of my life back together. Little by little I started to write. I wrote about my current situation and kept it in a journal. All the notes were a way for me to keep my head in the game at a time when Life’s Curveball was in charge.

We all have to get stuff done, day job responsibilities, family commitments, writing deadlines, but sometimes life forces you to turn away.  When this happens all we can do is to take a step back and reassess our current situation. For me, I’ve learned to separate tasks and deal with the “must dos” and then deal with everything else.

The trick to keeping your sanity is to work through your issues one day at a time. And, try not to get too discouraged.  If you make small strides every day you’ll soon be on the road to recapturing yourself. And remember, when there’s enough room in your life the door to creativity will open again.♥

GETTING THE WORD COUNT

by Chapter President Ursula Renée

Chantal glanced across the room at Ahmal. His eyes did not sparkle with humor; the corners of his mouth did not twitch; and the lines in his face remained smooth. There was no hint as to whether or not he had been joking. But, surely he could not be serious.

Yes, he was fearless and craved adventure like an infant carved its mother’s breast. But, no one was foolish enough to go after the Kraken...at least, not single-handedly, with nothing more than his wit and charm. To do so would be suicidal. For, if the beast did not kill him, she would.

To ensure they were keeping to their mission of advancing the professional interests of career focused romance authors, Romance Writers of America (RWA) revised the rules for General Members. To prove serious intent, a member should either be in PAN or PRO; have published a work of romance fiction of at least 20,000 words or multiple works of romance fiction that have a combine for a total of at least 20,000 words; or complete a work of romantic fiction of at least 20,000 words or complete multiple works of romantic fiction of that have a combine total of at least 20,000.

Since changing their requirements, RWA set out to help members reach their goals by creating The End. The goal of the challenge is to write at least 2,000 words every month from February to December. Individuals who complete the challenge each month will have at least 22,000 words written by the end of the year. This is 2,000 more words that are needed to prove serious intent.

With jobs, family and life obligations getting in the way if our writing, 2000 words may seem like a lot. However, it works out to approximately 67 words a day. A more adventurous person could round this number up to the 100 words.

So, what exactly does 100 words look like? The total word count for the first two paragraphs is 102 words. They were typed on a cell phone while waiting for my breakfast to be prepared at a diner. It is not the most riveting piece of literature written, but it is something. And, as people will continue to say, over and over and over again…you can’t edit a blank page.

Participants can join a loop, where they are cheered in by other members. They can also sign up to receive daily motivational emails from established authors. Finally, each month, everyone who completes the challenge is entered into a raffle.

RWA/NYC not only encourages members to participate in the challenge, they hosts monthly write-ins and bi-monthly critique meetings to help individuals reach their goals. We also cheer members who participate in NaNoWriMo, which takes place in November, and the CampNaNoWriMo events held during the spring.

While RWA is there to help advance the professional interests of its members, they cannot write the works for the authors. It is up to the individual to determine her goals then make the commitment to achieve them.

Thanks to the support and encouragement of the members of RWA/NYC, Ursula signed her first publishing contract in 2013 for her historical romance, SWEET JAZZ. As President of RWA/NYC, Ursula wants to offer the same encouragement and guidance to other RWA members.  Visit her at www.ursularenee.com.
